VTFC Physical Therapists Pass Manual Therapy Practical Examination Richard Banton and Kevin Dandy, VTFC Physical Therapists, excelled during the North American Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy, Inc (NAIOMT) manual therapy practical examinations held on July 18, 2009. NAIOMT is recognized as the leader in orthopedic manual therapy education and Rich and Kevin are two of only several Physical Therapists on the East Coast to pass the NAIOMT Level 3 Practical Examinations. The NAIOMT Level 3 Practical examination is an intense examination process that challenges examinees to discuss their clinical reasoning skills and also demonstrate effective and safe hands-on joint mobilizations and manipulations. Your Body After Baby: Restoring Form & Function After Pregnancy TM
The Postpartum Health for Moms Program, Your Body After Baby, consists of a seven-week course series focused on restoration of proper form and function in postpartum women. Each class is led by two licensed physical therapists. The program is appropriate for moms of newborns (6 weeks old) and moms of older children. Each class blends lecture and lab components to provide participants with education on the physical changes pregnancy and delivery brings, postural and breathing analysis, rectus diastasis screening, core muscle retraining, proper bending, lifting and carrying techniques and a safe postpartum exercise program.
The class is held once a quarter and is held on Thursdays at 10am in the exercise room at VTFC. Please contact Johanna Beuhring or Carey White at VTFC for further details. The next course series begins September 22, 2009. Program cost is $105.
VTFC's Michael McMurray guest lecturer for Shenandoah University’s Physical Therapy Program As part of the physical therapy education at Shenandoah University, the students in their final year take an advanced topics course in which area clinicians serve as guest lecturers for various topics. This fall Michael McMurray will be serving as one of those lecturers and presenting a course entitled “Introduction to the AAOMPT and Fellowship Process and Manipulation of the Spine and Extremities”. This course will introduce the students to multiple manual techniques for the spine and extremities as well as use case studies to encourage critical thinking. Mike will also discuss his experiences during his manual therapy fellowship and the benefits of joining the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT).
