Physical Therapist
Larry is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Specialist (OCS) through the American Physical Therapy Association and a founding member of the Virginia Therapy & Fitness Center (VTFC) physical therapy team when VTFC was established in 2004. Larry works with each patient to provide a thorough, efficient, and successful treatment plan using his knowledge and expertise in orthopedic manual physical therapy. He utilizes a comprehensive biomechanical assessment to identify the source of the injury to get to the root cause of what is causing the patient’s pain and dysfunction. The comprehensive biomechanical evaluation will determine the treatment strategies used to help the patient find a successful and sustainable solution. Initially the solution involves a delivery of a combination of manual therapy techniques and targeted therapeutic exercise. Treatment plans will evolve to transition a patient to safely self-manage their conditions outside of the clinic.
In addition to treating orthopedic post-surgical, and sports medicine injuries, he has a sub-specialty in post-surgical ACL rehabilitation, Regenerative Rehabilitation, post-concussion therapy, and vestibular conditions involving the treatment of dizziness and balance symptoms. While at University of Miami, Larry became a Competency Certified Vestibular Rehabilitation Specialist in 2000 and had the opportunity to work at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute as the Research Assistant of Drs. Susan Herdman and Ronald Tusa. Drs. Susan Herdman and Ronald Tusa are considered leading authorities of Vestibular Rehabilitation and vestibular research. Additionally, his research article was published in the Physical Therapy Journal, “Optimizing the Sensitivity of the Head Thrust Test in Identifying Vestibular Hypofunction”. Larry also has a special interest in the new field of Regenerative Rehabilitation, which involves developing successful treatment plans for patient’s rehabilitating after Regenerative Medicine procedures such as Proliferant (prolo) Therapy, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections, Stem Cell / Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) injections, and Micro-Fragmented Fat injections.
Larry played competitive soccer and tennis for many years. He played tennis in high school and with USTA leagues as a 3.5/4.0 player. In his youth, he played travel club soccer and participated in the Olympic Development Program and Region I Regional Tournaments several times. Larry was recruited to play college soccer for Millersville University, NCAA Division II in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), where he was named 2-time 1st Team All-PSAC East Conference, PSAC-East Conference Most Valuable Player, and Team Captain. Larry continues his love of sports by working with athletes ranging from youth and weekend warriors to professional athletes. For several years, Larry was the Head Athletic Trainer for the USISL Professional Soccer Team, Assistant Athletic Trainer for the United States Men’s National Soccer Team, and Student Athletic Trainer for Millersville University athletic teams and the University of Miami (FL) Football Team. He has worked with athletes on the US Men’s World Cup Soccer Team, US Women’s World Cup Soccer Team, NBA G-League, NFL athletes, Division I athletes, and numerous college athletes. As a result of Larry’s personal experiences as an athlete, Certified Athletic Trainer, Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist, and Physical Therapist he has experience treating athletic injuries and is a leader in the field of physical therapy. Larry also has a passion for learning. As a result of his continued interest in learning he co-founded the Mid-Atlantic Physical Therapy Associates (MAPTA), a physical therapy continuing education organization to bring high-quality continuing education to the region. Outside the clinic, Larry is a Lead Instructor of physical therapy education for the Institute of Advanced Musculoskeletal Treatments (IAMT). Go Canes!!
